Green Beans

Green beans are generally available during our summer CSA season intermittently from June through late July. We grow a few successions to lengthen our harvest window, but mature beans come in flushes, so we are generally able to pick hard once a week or once every other week, depending on the weather. Beans can be finnicky: if the weather has been wet or cool, the beans will grow slowly and we might take a week off of offering green beans. If it has been a warm in the early summer, expect many beans! These are a labor intensive crop that require tedious hand harvesting. Enjoy this special treat!

Storage Tips

Green beans don’t appreciate being in a tightly sealed container, as they can get slimy pretty quick. Store your fresh green beans in the fridge in an open bag or container, and rinse just before using. When thinking about how long your green beans might last in your fridge, think back on the recent weather conditions (or reference the most recent farm newsletter!). Wet weather in the field compromises the storage life of most vegetables, but especially fresh green beans. If it has been a significantly rainy week (or month..), eat your green beans promptly!
